The Autodesk Step by step introduction was a helpful way to learn the basics of Revit. I like that the guide was written by the authors of books, they were very good at outlining in a detailed organized manner. Some of the terminology was new to me like parameter but everything was explained in each section. Revit is broken down into several elements, the main components being model and annotation. The model categories are things like walls, doors, floor, stairs and beams. The annotation categories are text, dimensions and tags. I like that they use the broad categories to define each element because as the article stated items come in all shapes, sizes and behaviors making it impossible to limit each category to a simple definition. While reading the article I found it helpful to have the yellow highlighting over the most important information. I was able to quickly re-read each page finding the most necessary information such as definitions and how to complete tasks. The illustration on page 5 was a good summary of terminology and made it was to categorize the elements of projects and what they represent. I was able to understand how to build family content from page 12 by following along with the simple steps and illustrations. The illustrations were more helpful to me because I learn by viewing what to do rather than reading and trying to visualize. I continued on to attempt several of the Parameters and tried adding materials and adjusting the height and width of objects. I am still very slow and finding myself needed to reference the guide often but it was a helpful start to my beginning processes in Revit. I noticed that the author also provided video tutorials which I may also try in the future.
